Labour Day 2025, 2026 and 2027
In Costa Rica, as in many other parts of the world, 1 May is Labour Day and an official off-work day for the nation’s work force. In fact, Article #148 of Costa Rica’s Labour Code specifies no one can be required to work on Labour Day or fired or punished for not doing so.

In Costa Rica, Labour Day is generally much more relaxed and less commercialised than in the US, though there are a few boisterous protests going on. You will find some parades, fireworks displays, and a special speech by the nation’s president.
Otherwise, people head to the beaches in droves, to the point the crowds and traffic actually keep others from even attempting a beach trip.
For the nation’s government, Labour Day every fourth year is one of the busiest days of the year. It’s the day when the newly elected parliament selects the new leadership and committees. It’s an all-day affair, for them, and no day off.
